TOP4HoneyChains (Trustable and Sustainable Open Platform for Smart Honey Value Chains) is a collaboration of multinational (with Argentina as a transatlantic partner) researchers and experts incorporating research and innovation excellence by adopting a multi-actor approach to design a trusted and sustainable smart honey value chain (ABZ). It is a study. Four pilot cases related to the most common honeybee value chains in Argentina and Turkey were selected. These pilot cases are all-encompassing food chains from production to the consumer, involving many stakeholders, including beekeepers, beekeeper associations and cooperatives, wholesalers, packers, consumer cooperatives.
Monitoring systems offer an effective method of receiving, processing, visualizing, sharing and managing data obtained from agricultural and livestock activities. One of the most important goals of the platform designed in this context is to publish and share the collected data in open formats, but it is much more important to create useful information from the data for beekeepers and consumers. Therefore, stakeholders will be able to share and obtain the most value-creating information along the chain.
TOP4HoneyChains will leverage a data-driven innovation perspective that will create additional values for different stakeholders in the honey value chain, including reducing food waste, combating fraud, improving food quality, ensuring food safety, increasing food transparency. In the process of developing a reliable and open data platform, which is the focus of this project, it is aimed to identify, design and implement innovations in data and business ecosystems.
• Four selected pilot examples of the most demanded value chains will be examined in Argentina and Turkey. It will be analyzed in detail throughout the value chain, including beekeepers, beekeeper associations and cooperatives, wholesalers, packers, consumer cooperatives and retailers.
• We will carry out requirements engineering activities leading to the design of innovative digital business ecosystems for the Smart Honey Chain, addressing many challenges due to the partly different goals of the stakeholders involved and the varying degrees of openness of the digital platforms.
• While utilizing design science and data thinking to examine honey value chains, a case-by-case beehive and multi-actor approach will be used to uncover critical points of interest and relevant data points. Chain models will be subject to review for data on critical points of interest and activities and valuable information for actors.
• The TOP4HoneyChains project will design and develop an Open Data Platform using cutting-edge technologies, including dynamic data collection and semantic integration services enabled by a scalable, robust microservices architecture.
• We will develop a new ontology for TOP4HoneyChains and perform analysis and specification of data APIs for external data sources and data consumers.
